Utricularia

The Genus of Utricularia consist of about 275 species
Utricularia vulgaris the Greater bladderwort ( active mousetrap)
The origin are from : Europe Siberia North Africa North America including Alaska
They grow in ditches or ponds ,marshes and even in peat bogs
Likes half shade
can grow in an aquarium or pond temp 0 to 30c
Humidity aquatic plant
Flowers May to September, colour of the flower is a bright yellow
Lifespan is indefinite
Utricularia sandersonii
Origin from South Africa
Is a terrestrial plant grows in a marshy area where it is shaded by surrounding vegetation
The flower stalk bares one to seven flowers ,the palate at the centre of the flower is yellowy-green ,becoming violet towards the edge
Compost is peat ,spagman or a mixture of the two
Ph maintained between 4.5 and 6
Compost must be damp
Utricularia alpina (Mountain Utricularia)
Origin from Central and South America (Columbia Guyana Peru Venezuela ) West Indies (Dominic Martinique Saint Vincent La Trinite Grenada)
Is an epiphytic species– it lives on trees that grow on the mountains at heights frequently covered by clouds. the plant grows on mosses that develop on the branches it develops on the side with most light.
The flowers comprises of pale yellow in the middle and white on the outside needs fairly high temperature
from 6c to 30c
Can be very difficult to grow ,will grow in a heat controlled aquarium or a propagator
Drosera binata (the forked leaf sundew )
Origin from Eastern and south eastern Australia (New South Wales Victoria Tasmania ) New Zealand.
The name binata has been attributed to the plant because of the bipartite or Y-shaped division of its leaves.
Can be found mountain bogs to low altitude swamps but always in a constantly wet acid soil
